Clay Ganesha

Lets welcome our favorite god Ganesha to our homes on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi,,,

Everyone will be busy making Ganesha's favorite food items for the festival. Here, I am showing you the process of making Environmental Friendly Ganesha at home and keep you even more busy :)

In a previous post, I have shown the process of making Clay at home.

Let's start the process,,,,,

Today I'm making the Ganesha only with clay.

These are the colors i used to make Ganesha.

Before making the process i want to share some tips:

• There is no need to use Fevicol for attaching pieces. Clay itself has Fevicol, so it sticks automatically.
• Always make the clay into a ball before making any shapes. This way you will get proper shapes.
• Always keep the remaining clay inside the air tight bag, so that it will not get dry.
• Every time you remove the clay from the air tight bag, knead it once.

First we will take a tray and apply some lotion to it. So that you can move it easily.

Ganesha Base:

Take some brown clay.
Make a half inch thick flat shape like this and place it on the tray.





Ganesha Stomach:

Take some orange clay.
Make a ball like this. There should be no cracks.                                              

Place it on the center of the base carefully. After placing it, make sure you have some space in all sides.




Ganesha Legs:

Take some yellow clay. 
Make a ball, roll it like a cylindrical shape. And continue to roll it until you get a shape like this. It should be thin at the center, thick at the sides and thin at the edges.

Arrange these legs on the base around the stomach.

Ganesha Feet:

Take two small balls of orange clay. Press it like rectangular shape. At one end by using a bamboo stick make 5 fingers. 

Arrange these feet to the legs like one on top of the other.

Ganesha Dhoti:
It is very easy.

With the use of bamboo stick make some lines on the legs. It gives the feel of Dhoti.




Ganesha Hands:
Right Hand: 

This hand is for blessing.
Take some orange clay. Roll it like cylindrical shape. We will divide the hand as wrist and elbow by rolling thick at one place and thin at one place.
The first end we will attach to the stomach and the last end is going to be the palm.
Press the last end and bend it. Take the bamboo stick and make the fingers.

Attach the hand to the top of stomach.

Left Hand:

This hand is to hold the modak.
Take ball of orange clay, roll it like a cylindrical shape. We will divide the hand as wrist and elbow by rolling thick at one place and thin at one place.
The first end we will attach to the stomach and the last end is going to be the palm.

Press the last end and make fingers by using bamboo stick.

Attach the hand to the top of stomach.

Modak:
This is ganesha's and everyone favorite.

Take small ball of yellow clay and make it like cone shape.
Real modak will have some lines on it. So, here with bamboo stick we will make some lines.

Ganesha Head and Trunk:

Take a ball of orange clay and roll it like this at one end. 
The round part will be the Head and the other part will be Trunk.

Attach the head on the stomach by covering the joining part of both hands. I want my ganesha's trunk to the right hand side. You can change it as per your interest.

Ganesha Sacred Thread:

Take some white clay and roll it very thin. It should be even throughout.

Place this on Ganesha across from Left hand shoulder to the right hand.

Ganesha Ears:

Take 2 balls of orange clay, press them like round shape.
Make flat at one side to fix them to the head.

Attach the ears on the two sides of the head at the same place. Slightly bend at the edges.

Ganesha Navel:

By using bamboo stick make a small round at the center of the belly.

Ganesha Crown:
I want to make it like a Turban.

Take small ball of purple clay and roll it very thin and evenly.

Arrange it layer by layer until you get your desired size of the crown.

Ganesha Naamalu:

                 
Take 3 very small balls of white clay and roll them evenly and place them on the head.

                  
Take small ball red clay, press it and place it on the center of 3 lines.

Ganesha eyes:

Take 4 very small balls of black clay. Two for the eyes and two for the eye balls.
For the eyes roll the two balls thick at the center and thin in the middle. Bend them in the middle slightly.

Place them on the two sides of the face crossly.

Ganesha Teeth:

Take two very small ball white clay and roll them like cone shape.

Attach them to the sides of the trunk.

Mouse: 

 Take dark grey clay. Press it on one end like this to make the face.        

Take dark grey clay. Roll it thick and even for the tail. 

Join the tail to the back side of mouse. Place two very small balls of black clay as eyes at the front on both sides.

Ganesha Naivedyam:

Take white clay, make it flat circle and bend from the sides. Make some more modaks and place them on the plate.

Ganesha Aasan:

Take golden brown clay and make it like thick, even, rectangular shape.
Make sure you have enough space to place ganesha, mouse and naivedyam.



Place ganesha at the center, mouse at the left, naivedyam at the right.
With bamboo stick make some lines to the sides.

Cold Porcelain Clay

Buying clay from outside is expensive. It is easy & low-cost to make at home. 

We can easily mold it to many number of ways. It hardens when exposed to air.

Lets make the Cold Porcelain Clay,,,

Step: 1
Items required

1. Nonstick pan
2. Wooden Spoon
3. Corn Starch
4. Glue
5. Lemons
6. Baby oil
7. Acrylic Colors
8. Measuring cup



Step: 2

One by one we will take all these ingredients in a nonstick pan
           - 240 ml Corn starch
           - 240 ml Glue
           - 2 Tbsp Lemon juice
           - 2 Tbsp Baby oil




Mix it well,until u get a nice mixture.
There should be no lumps.





Step: 3 

Cook this mixture on a low heat for around 15 minutes. Keep stirring continuously.
After 15 minutes it starts pulling away from the sides of the pan. At this point switch off the flame and takeout the pan from stove.

Step: 4

Apply some lotion to both the hands and to the surface to avoid this mixture from sticking.

Takeout the mixture from the pan and knead it continuously until the mixture cools.




Step: 5

Apply some lotion to the polythene cover.
Once the mixture cools down make it like a ball shape and place this on the cover and fold it tightly from all the sides.
Put it in a Ziploc bag and keep this in dark and cool place for 24 hrs undisturbed.

Step: 6

Tick Tock, Tick Tock,,,
After 24 hrs the clay will become soft and smooth.
By following these two steps, you can know the condition of the clay.

1. Press with your finger, then it should leave your finger impression. And it  shouldn't stick to your finger.
2. It should form a tear drop shape when pulled apart.

Step: 7

If you would like to make colored clay, take required amount of clay and add few drops of color of your taste and knead it thoroughly.

You can adjust the color of clay by adding few more color drops(for dark) or white clay(for light).





After every use, keep the remaining clay in an air tight cover to avoid the clay becoming dry.

Don't worry about your Nonstick pan, it is very easy to clean the mess.

Paper Wall Clock

No one likes to throw any old or unused things. Even me too. Somehow we will try to Reuse them anywhere. I am Seeing so many magazines lying in my shelf. So i thought of making something useful by Reusing those papers. Then I came up with an idea of making Paper Wall Clock.

Here is the Wall Clock I made. I know you liked it :). Go and grab some Old News Papers or Magazines and follow the simple steps I'm showing.

Lets get started,,,,,

Step: 1

Let me show the items we need, before starting the process.

You will need these 4 items.

- Magazines [2 ct]

- Clock Machine

- Glue

- Straw

I want colors in my clock here and there. That is reason I used Magazines.

If u want only Black and White, you can use News Paper.

Step: 2

Take one paper and place the straw at one end and start rolling. Roll the paper tightly but not too much tight. Roll till the end as shown in the above picture.

Apply some glue at the end of the roll, remove the excess glue and paste it.

Take out the Straw from the roll.

       



Step: 3

Place the roll on the ground and press it gently from one edge to the other. Make some rolls like this.

I made around 200 rolls like this






Step: 4

Take one roll and start rolling tightly from one end. Once you reach the other end apply some glue and join one more roll and continue with rolling. Repeat the process until you get your desired size.
While making the roundel, don't forget to count the number of rolls you are using to make one roundel. This way, you will get even sized roundels.

Step: 5

Make 12 roundels like this for the 12 numbers.
Make them evenly.

Make one big roundel like this for the center part.
Apply glue throughout the strip, otherwise it will become loose.





Before starting the center part, check the size of your machine [which will be written on the back side of the package]. Leave that much space in the middle as shown in the picture to fix the machine.

Step: 6

Make 4-inch 12 Strips like this by folding the paper.
Do not make these too thick.
I did not use any straw.




Step: 7
Now we have to connect the Small Roundels to the center part.

Make a little gap in the small roundel by using toothpick and insert the strip into that gap. Insert the other end into the center part by making a small gap. Bring them close.

Step: 8

Cut the excess part of the strip and join the two strip edges by using glue. Be careful while joining the edges. Because this is the only thing that is connecting the Center part and the Small Roundels.
Let it Dry for sometime.

After Connecting all the 12 Small Roundels to the center part, it will look like this.





Step: 9

Fix the machine at the center as per the manual given in its package.






After doing this much process, I didn't feel like taking any risk. So for more safety I placed some plasters on the backside.

Step: 10
Ta DA,,,,,,,
Your Wall clock is ready.
Hang it on the wall carefully.

This is how it looks on the wall.
You can customize the size as per your requirements.

You can make & present this for a Housewarming function. They're gonna love it :)
